...how bitterly disappointed I get when my babysitter cancels. Especially when it's two days before the day she was going to come and I have a notebook page full of things I want to get done and I've been looking forward to it and at times talking myself out of mean, bad places with my kids by muttering, "Two more days. Only two more days and I'll be sitting in Tully's with no one to answer to but an Americano and my laptop."
I might be wrong, but I think babysitters take advantage of the fact that I'm a stay-at-home mom with fairly flexible tasks and goals. I don't think I'd be cancelled on as much if I had to get to a nine-to-fiver. And maybe rightly so.
But maybe not. It's very frustrating.

I know this is a really old post I'm commenting on - I just found your blog through 'On The Upside' - and I felt that I HAD to comment.
As a university student who babysits and part time nanny's, as my only form of income (until I graduate at the end of this year, and start teaching next year) I don't think that your babysitter letting you down is because you're a SAHM, or because you don't have a 9-5 job (you have a 24 hour job!).
Your babysitter may be great with your kids, but is clearly not very professional. Whether she/he is a teenager, college student or adult - it's their job to look after your kids, when they've said that they will. Unless it's a legitimate reason, they should treat it as any other job, and not call you up saying they can't come only two days before hand, unless they can provide a replacement.
All it shows is a lack of respect for you, your kids, and their job.
Having said this, I'm sure your babysitter is a lovely person....

Hmmm. Not sure how to reply to your reply to my comment ;) Typepad is new to me!
But yes, if I lived on the same side on the world as you, I'd absolutely be available for nannying! :D
Unfortunatly, the commute in the mornings might be a little far right now.... imagine the carbon emissions!
