I write letters to Max in my head
done with second grade
He’s opened up like a hydrangea
Small blue petals quivering
in the sun
of their eighth summer
A paroxysm of color and light
I’ve been eating most of the granola bars
I bought to give homeless people
the bars sit on the passenger seat of my car
and I grab them
Inhale them
I’m sorry
I failed
to finish revisions on my work-in-progress
before the end of the school year
Now…
I can’t think
There’s no space for creativity
Mamamamamama!
How do I connect words around that?
You
look away when I want you to peer in
see right through me, see right through me
sometimes. Other days, I know I'm lucky
because you gaze at me like
I'm expensive sculpture
Soon I'm leaving
In a day
And that will be that
for a while
BTW: I hold no illusions that I write poetry. Prose is my thing and this is that in stanza form. Thank you for reading it.

Safe travels, Angie.

I ate my granola bars, too. Now I keep them in the trunk.

Love your writing, in poetry or prose...
p.s. whatever happened to the rest of green grass?

Good question, Parul!
The honest answer is I got totally tired of it. I told myself that if anyone questioned what happened and wanted more, I'd write another installment or two. But now it's been more than a year.

This is awesome.
And p.s., we all still think about Greener Grass.

I like it! As for the revisions, they'll still get done. Is there a way you can carve out a specific block of time each day to do a little? My husband is very good about getting up early to write, but I (obviously) am not.

Poetry, prose, pictures or whatever: I love coming here to see what you've done.
Safe travels.
