Kitty Cat, my 2-year-old girl, is really into eating frozen things. Her favorites are frozen corn, frozen edamame and frozen chicken nuggets. Hmm. Today Fruit Bat decided he wanted in on the frozen corn. He spat it out in disgust, saying, "It has no taste. I like things with taste." Yes, well, don't we all.
When I was a teenager I had a real problem with ice chewing. I went through 2 or 3 trays of ice a day (which, compared to some of these people, is nothing). I would grab a cube, sneak into the laundry room and munch away, water sliding down my arm, teeth aching. But I didn't care. I craved it. I think I had pica and I think it was due to an iron deficiency.
Anyway, I'm hoping Kitty Cat doesn't turn into the ice cube zealot that I was. Her affinity for all foods frozen might actually come in handy. She won't touch bananas, but I bet she'd go for one frozen on a stick. Or perhaps rock solid spinach? A meatloaf cone? Frosted over black beans?
